If you have taken a 23andMe genetic test, you may be wondering how to download your raw data. In this blog post, we will walk you through the process of downloading your data from 23andMe.com. We will also explain what the different files in your raw data mean, and give you some tips on how to use them. Let’s get started!
The first step in downloading your raw data is to log into your 23andMe account. Once you are logged in, click on the “Tools and Settings” link at the top of the page. On the next page, scroll down to the “Download Raw Data” section and click on the “Download” button.
You will be given a choice of two file formats to download your data in. The “JSON” format is the format that 23andMe uses internally, and is not compatible with most third-party genetic analysis tools. The “CSV” (comma-separated values) format is a more standard format that can be imported into most genetic analysis tools. We recommend downloading your data in the CSV format.
Once you have downloaded your raw data, you will need to unzip the file. Inside the zip file, you will find two files: “genome_XXXXXXX.txt” and “manifest.csv”. The “genome_XXXXXXX.txt” file contains your raw genetic data, and the “manifest.csv” file contains information about the SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) that are included in your data.
That’s it! You now have your 23andMe raw data downloaded and ready to use with your favorite genetic analysis tools.
Can you download 23andMe to ancestry?
You cannot download 23andMe data to ancestry. However, you can download your raw data from 23andMe and then upload it to ancestry. To do this, you will need to create a free account on GEDmatch.com. Once you have created an account, you can login and select the “Admixture” tab. On the Admixture page, select “Upload Raw Data”.
On the next page, select “23andMe” as your data format, and then choose the CSV file that you downloaded from 23andMe. Finally, click on the “Upload Raw Data” button. Your raw data will now be uploaded to GEDmatch and you will be able to see your ancestry results.
