The illustrious Ragnar Lothbrok, renowned Viking ruler and warrior, became a legendary hero through his daring raids on England and France in the 8th and 9th centuries. He is immortalized in tales from Scandinavia to this very day as an iconic figure of courage, strength and leadership.
Ancestors of Ragnar Lodbrok can be traced back to Sigurd Rise, the Danish king from around 800 AD. His father was none other than Sigurd Hring who wedded Aslaug, a Valkyrie resulting in three sons; Ivar the Boneless, Bjorn Ironside and Halfdan Ragnarsson.
Most are familiar with Ivar’s feats as he led The Great Heathen Army against England during the 9th century and is renowned for conquering Dublin along with his successful sieges on numerous parts of Ireland. He married Thora Town-Hart and had two children Ubba and Guthrum which further perpetuates his legacy today!
Bjorn Ironside, an adventurous explorer and fearless warrior who braved the Mediterranean Sea, married Sigrid the Haughty and they had one son; Erik Bjornsson. His brother Halfdan Ragnarsson was renowned for his successful raids in Scotland, Ireland, and England. He betrothed Ragnhild Eiriksdottir with whom he welcomed two sons -Halfdan Whiteleg and Gudrod Halfdansson- into their family.
Ragnar’s progeny have attained lasting fame in their own right; his sons and grandsons, such as Ivar the Boneless and Bjorn Ironside, stand out even among other legendary Viking warriors.
